About Charlotte Pipe
Charlotte Pipe and Foundry Company was founded in 1901 by W. Frank Dowd when he recognized the need for plumbing pipe in the newly industrialized, post-war South. The company operated at the Uptown location for more than a century before the Company relocated foundry operations in 2023 to a new state-of-the-art facility in Oakboro, just east of Charlotte. Here the company produces cast iron soil pipe and fittings.
In 1967, the company entered the plastic pipe and fittings business. Today Charlotte Pipe is fifth generation family-owned, and operates seven manufacturing facilities across the United States. All of its products are made in America, and the company is proud to employ over 1700 associates, including more than 500 at the foundry.
Through the Dowd Foundation, the philanthropic arm of Charlotte Pipe, Charlotte Pipe is a generous donor to educational, cultural, human services and affordable housing organizations and charities. Our company and its associates also donate generously of their time and resources to various community organizations. Many serve on nonprofit boards and volunteer regularly.
